CV3 Carbonaceous Chondrite represents a specific and highly significant class of meteorite, distinguished by its unique composition and primitive nature. The "CV" designation refers to the Vigarano type of carbonaceous chondrite, named after the Vigarano meteorite, which is a key exemplar of this group. The "3" indicates its petrologic type, signifying that it has undergone minimal thermal metamorphism or aqueous alteration since its formation, preserving its pristine, undifferentiated state
CV3 chondrites are typically dark-colored and often friable, meaning they are easily broken. Their composition is rich in carbon, volatile elements, and water-bearing minerals, making them distinct from other meteorite classes. A defining feature is the presence of abundant calcium-aluminum-rich inclusions, which are among the oldest known solids in the solar system, predating chondrules. Chondrules, spherical silicate melt droplets, are also prominent, though their textures and compositions can vary within the CV group. These meteorites also contain a diverse array of organic compounds, including amino acids, and presolar grains, which are microscopic particles that formed in stellar environments before the birth of our SunThe iron in CV3 chondrites can exist in different oxidation states, leading to further sub-classification into oxidized and reduced subgroups, each with distinct mineralogical and chemical characteristics
